AFJ - Working out in Winter

Wow.. it’s been a really long time hasn’t it! I almost forgot we started this series! For those of you mega confused to what AFJ is, this is the first one READ HERE

AFJ stands for ‘April’s Fitness Journey’ and last time we spoke I was doing the 21 day challenge, feeling pretty confident in my progress…

Then winter hit and it all fell apart!

Ain’t no one working out when it’s cold outside!

I think I speak for everyone here (other than you hardcore fitness buffs) When it gets dark at five and it’s freezing outside, all I want to do is snug up under a blanket, watch Netflix and stuff my face with all the snacks!.. What? just me?

So I’ve been slacking. I used to go to the gym almost every day. I used to plan my meals out and make sure I was under a certain amount of calories or just not eat carbs. But honestly I’m tired of it. Being so restricted on what I could eat sucked! And although I enjoy the gym I defo don’t enjoy how busy it is when I go after work.

So you’ve given up?

In short, no. I still enjoy exercising every day and I still want to tone up, but I just needed to find a way to stick to some kind of exercise routine… So I started a challenge.. I know I’m a sucker for them!

If you google squat challenge there are mountains of different ones ranging in difficulty and time. After hours (More like minutes, I’m lazy) of scrolling I settled on this one.

Having something written out makes exercising daily so much easier. You don’t have to think about how many of each exercise you have to do or work out rest days because it’s all done for you. I’ve also found that the idea of a challenge motivates me to do the work out each day, rather than just setting my own goals.

I’m currently on day 24 and to be honest it’s getting pretty difficult. The last thing I want to do after a long day of work is 200 squats but I’m sticking to it. Even if that means having to do exercises at midnight because thats the only slot of free time I have. I didn’t hold out much hope that doing these exercises would do much, but Surprising I’m actually finding that my legs and bum are getting more and more toned, and my abs are getting much stronger (not quiet six pack level yet though!)

So that’s how I’m getting through these trying winter months but I’m still new to this fitness game so if you have any tips and tricks let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to try them out!
